Dr. Glen David Brin is a scientist and bestselling science fiction author from Glendale, California. Brin received a Bachelor of Science in astrophysics from the California Institute of Technology in 1973. He followed this by obtaining Master of Science in applied physics and a Doctor of Philosophy in space science from UC San Diego.
Brin’s body of work includes his 1998 nonfiction publication titled The Transparent Society: Will Technology Force us To Choose Between Privacy and Freedom? In The Transparent Society, the author emphasizes openness and transparency as a good general policy for the upcoming era. To those concerned with privacy, Brin points out that ubiquitous surveillance cuts both ways, empowering citizens to keep tabs on governments and corporations–not just the other way around. The work earned Brin the Freedom of Speech Award of the American Library Association. He was also the recipient of the Hugo award for his works Startide Rising and The Uplift War.
