In June 2012, Boik published his work titled Creating Sustainable Societies: The Rebirth of Democracy and Local Economies. In this book, Boik applies a biological perspective called systems thinking to our wider financial, economic, and governance systems. While many communities face difficult socioeconomic and environmental problems, such as debt, deficits, underemployment, decaying infrastructure, pollution, and inequities in income and wealth, Boit’s visionary work makes the case that we are capable of creating a path that leads away from decline and towards revitalization.
