Conservatives have mocked the near-reverence accorded our new President, as if he were being treated as some kind of messiah. He is far from that, being entirely human and most importantly a savvy politician and skilled power player.

Like a heads-up display projected onto their retinas, the imagination indelibly colors the believers’ view. They fail to differentiate between inner and outer perceptions–between wishful thinking and observation.
